Treatment for Golfer's Elbow or Medial Epicondylitis
Acupuncture treatment involves inserting needles into the trigger points of the muscles responsible for pain in the medial epicondyle, also known as golfer’s elbow.
Trigger points in the medial head of the triceps muscle and the pectoralis major muscle are the most common causes of pain in the medial epicondyle of the elbow.
The sustained shortening of muscle fibers in these muscles activates the myofascial trigger points, leading to pain in the medial area of the elbow, over the medial epicondyle.
Treating only the medial epicondyle area will never fully resolve the pain; it is necessary to deactivate the trigger points in the responsible muscles. Inserting acupuncture needles into these trigger points quickly relaxes the muscle fibers, making the pain disappear.
Generally, 3 to 4 sessions are needed to completely resolve the pain.

What is myofascial pain and how is it treated?
The activation of a trigger point is usually associated with muscle overload due to mechanical abuse. When a muscle trigger point is activated, the pain intensifies as its muscle fibers contract to generate movement and this pain often occurs far from the affected muscle area.
